The Building Department is responsible for the enforcement of all codes relating to the use, occupancy and construction of all buildings in Harper Woods. All construction plans are reviewed and given approval by the Building Department before permits are issued. Licensed inspectors ensure that all structures meet safety and code requirements. Homeowners, architects and builders are welcome to meet with the Building Inspector and other relevant City Departments prior to the start of any construction project to ensure that the project will meet the required codes. When necessary, some project requests will be referred to either the Planning Commission or Board of Zoning Appeals for approval before the issuance of permits.
In an effort to maintain the appearance of the City and control blight, the Building Department is also responsible for residential code enforcement. Please direct any code enforcement concerns to either the phone number or e-mail address listed below.
