City Assessor's Office

The primary purpose of the Assessor's Office is to establish the Assessed Value for all real and personal property in our city.  The Assessed Value of a property must be 50 percent of the true cash value of the property.

By law, all real and personal property (businesses only) is assessed as of "tax day" which is December 31 of the previous year.  The assessed value is also known as State Equalized Value or SEV.  The assessment roll is confirmed by the Wayne County Assessment and Equalization Department.  Wayne County mails the annual Notice of Assessment to all property owners during the first week of March.  This notice lists all of the amounts determined by the Assessors Office for the current tax year.   All taxpayers have a right to appeal their assessment and/or taxable value to the Board of Review at their annual March meetings.

Please contact us at 313.343.2526 or at building@harperwoodsmi.net  if you have any questions or need assistance.
